　　虽然身为建筑工人的儿子，乔治荣格（约翰尼·德普 Johnny Depp 饰）却并不愿被低下的出身所束缚。怀着远大的理想，他来到了加利福尼亚追逐自己的梦想。很快，靠着贩卖大麻，荣格赚到了一笔不义之财，但也因此摊上了牢狱之灾。在狱中，荣格结识了他“同病相怜”的狱友，狱友将他介绍给了大毒枭艾斯科巴（克利夫·柯蒂斯 Cliff Curtis 饰）。
　　很快，荣格成为了全美毒品运输的重要枢纽，而靠着贩毒，荣格赚取了金钱不计其数，他终于过上了他曾经向往的那种纸醉金迷的生活。可是，在内心里，对于自己所干的勾当，荣格深深的感到耻辱，再多的金钱也填补不了那不被亲人理解和接纳的痛苦，而在最后的最后，他也终究逃不过恢恢的法网。

　　约旦，1967年。世界巨变：对能源的争夺、新潮流、新音乐、对未来憧憬的蔓延。在约旦，不同的变化在悄然发生：巴勒斯坦成千上万的难民正跨越边境线到约旦寻求避难。11岁的Tarek与母亲在难民队伍中，而他的父亲则在战乱中被迫与家庭分开。他们和1948年就逃难至此的前一代难民一起被安置在难民营的活动帐篷中，等待可以重返家乡的那一天。难民营中的生活窘困，期待能够和爸爸重逢的Tarek想法离开难民营，并看到了希望。他对自由的向往和好奇的天性带领一群有着同样向往的人踏上了一段改变命运的旅程。

　　Y.是一位40多岁的以色列导演，他来到沙漠尽头的一个偏远村庄，想要展示他的一部电影。在那里，他遇到了文化部官员Yahalom，并发现自己正在打两场失败的战斗：一场是反对他的国家对于自由的消亡，另一场则是反抗他母亲的死亡。

The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family__APOS__s history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it__APOS__s the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family__APOS__s world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe__APOS__s clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. Alles könnte so schön sein, wenn nicht plötzlich gegenüber dieser neue Nachbar einziehen würde. Es ist sein ehemaliger Mitschüler Stu Jones samt Familie, mit dem ihn schon seit High-School-Tagen eine Dauerfehde verbindet. Es kommt wie es kommen muss: Zwischen den beiden Sturköpfen entbrennt ein wüster Wettstreit, um die schönste Weihnachtsbeleuchtung und um den begehrten 1. Platz im jährlichen Deko-Wettbewerb der kleinen Stadt. Doch während des bizarren Konkurrenzkampfs der Eltern bahnt sich zwischen ihren Teenager-Kindern eine scheue Liebe an. Besinnlichen Weihnachtsfeiertagen steht nichts im Wege.

　　导演克里斯托夫·巴拉蒂继处女作《放牛班的春天》之后再次演绎合唱团的故事， 怀旧的情绪，热情洋溢的人物，竖立起了一座法式平民电影的丰碑，甫一上映，再创票房佳绩。
　　本片发生的背景为1935年至1937年的法国。当时正是法国“人民前线”(popular front)运动高峰时期，法国国际工会(SFIO)第一次带领工人阶级取得了国家的合法政权。在一批社会主义积极分子的领导下，当时的法国社会上上下下开始了一系列的工人权益斗争运动。劳资关系变得空前的紧张。在普遍的罢工和呼吁改革的压力下，许多工人确实得到了福利及待遇的提高。但是，在很多地方，工人的待遇不但没有提高，反而因为工厂的倒闭以及当时的经济大萧条而陷入了更加艰苦的境地。
　　本片的主人公剧院舞台经理辟谷(杰拉尔·朱诺饰演)便是深受打击的一位。而祸不单行的是他的老婆也在这个时候背叛了他，跟着别的男人跑了，只留他和儿子相依为命。谁知，儿子因为上街拉手风琴卖艺，自己指控无抚养能力，儿子也因此被行政机关强制带走。同时，辟谷所在的剧院也被当地的官员查封，他彻底的陷入了绝望的境地。
　　若是辟谷在这个时候选择一死了之故事也就没什么说的了，戏剧性的是他在遭受打击之后并没有选择就此沉沦，相反他重新鼓舞了斗志，并且想要自己组织一场戏剧演出以此来振奋自己的生活。于是他找来了同样已经失业的古怪的歌舞男杰克·杰克特和理想主义的革命青年埃米尔。随后他们开始自己动手修缮了破败的剧院，组织了一群失业青年来共同加入他们。并且还意外的找到了色艺俱佳的女演员杜丝。所有参加这场演出的人都没有收到任何的报酬，可是大家的热情同样十分高涨。因为这场演出，让许多人的生命中重新有了希望。
