影片讲述了一个想要研究虐杀电影的女记者误入魔窟，最后以暴制暴的故事。

　　Former secret agent Robert Elliot (Coburn) will be promoted to government advisor. In order to make sure no-one will ever know about his dirty past, he has invented a very ingenious plan to get rid of his four helpers: he gets them all to unknowingly kill each other in the course of a single night.

　　该片故事改编自布朗纳撰写的文章《追踪弗雷 加德特工》(Chasing Agent Freegard)，讲述一桩真实发生的故事，职业骗子罗伯特·弗雷加德(诺顿饰)是个操纵人心的高手，他让无数受害者相信他是军情五处的卧底，以此敲诈和绑架他们。阿特登所饰的角色最初为他的魅力所倾倒，后来成为了弗雷加德垮台的关键人物，她的行动导致他被定罪和逮捕。

　　When FBI Agent Zack Stewart is killed, Agent John Ripley takes over the three cases he was working on, hoping one will lead to his killer. The first involves gangster Joe Walpo and Ripley finds his hideout through Joe__APOS__s girl friend, Connie Anderson. Joe is killed but it is established he was 400 miles away when Stewart was murdered. The next involves a car-theft gang which Ripley breaks up by using one of the gang, Vince Angelino and his wife Julie. The last case involves Kate Martell, the victim of an extortionist who threatens to kidnap her child unless she pays him $10,000

　　Set in 1990, a lonely bachelor named David (Brian Landis Folkins) searches for an escape from the day-to-day drudgery of caring for his aging mother (Kathleen Brady). While seeking a partner through a video dating service, he discovers a strange VHS tape called Rent-A-Pal. Hosted by the charming and charismatic Andy (Wil Wheaton), the tape offers him much-needed company, compassion, and friendship. But, Andy__APOS__s friendship comes at a cost, and David desperately struggles to afford the price of admission.
